Johannes Erler

Johannes Erler (*1965) studied in Kiel, Germany, and in 1993, after a few short stops at the studios of Lo Breier and Meta Design, he became co-founder of Factor Design, Hamburg, together with Olaf Stein. In the following years, Factor Design developed into one of the major players among German design studios, focussing on corporate design and editorial design. The works of Factor Design were awarded numerous international design prizes. At the end of 2010, Erler left Factor Design and together with Henning Skibbe and Christian Tönsmann he co-founded the studio ErlerSkibbeTönsmann of which he is partner to this day. Clients of EST include the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, for whom the studio created the relaunch including a complete system of typefaces, the theatres of the cities of Bremen, Dresden and Stuttgart and numerous publishing houses both domestic and international. In 2012, Johannes Erler was named Art Director for the German weekly magazine »stern« and as such was responsible for its relaunch.
